Easier Than You Think
Posted by John on 20th May 2024
My head unit was slightly different than the one in the video. The screws were on the top instead of the back, but the video was clear enough to follow along and figure it out. I used both a Philips #1 and 0 screw driver and all the screw came out easily. The part fit perfectly and the radio is now as good as new.
Thanks BavTek, you did a great job on a pixel repair on an MID too. Very solid products and services. Appreciated -
well made piece
Posted by Unknown on 4th Feb 2023
Piece arrived quickly and well packaged.
Followed video and installed it with no problems. Recommend watching video a few times first.
I couldn’t detach the ribbon tape that connects the face plate to the computer board so had to be a little more delicate with the process.
Thanks Bavtek! -
Great instruction video!
Posted by Harry on 7th Oct 2022
Part arrived in just a few days, followed the instruction video (pausing for each step), and the radio is back in operation!
3D printed part fit perfectly.
Didn’t time myself but it was likely more like 30-40 minutes…

very high quality product and excellent instructions
Posted by Shawn s on 25th Jul 2021
I purchased this piece after getting the confidence that I could do it myself when seeing the instruction video. It's a bit intimidating but it boils down to just removing screws and can be done by anyone if some care is taken.
As others have noted, the ribbon on later C5D3 radios is different. It uses a slimmer ribbon and different clip.
Gently pull up the brown tab that's holding the ribbon cable to release.
Otherwise the process was very straight forward. My radio button is now solid just like new. -
great product to fix factory radio

Followed the video, radio is like new. 30 minutes. Hardest part was figuring out how to remove ribbon connectors.

Great video
Posted by Unknown on 27th Nov 2020
Thanks for the detailed video. The replacement part fit well. But it took me closer to 2 hours to get the job done. A few complications I encountered in fixing the radio knob on my 2005 BMW 325i:
- The flat cable connector on the circuit board inside the radio was vertical (not horizontal as shown in the video) and the locking mechanism very delicate. Be careful if you happen to come across this connector variant in your radio.
- As mentioned by other reviewers the new screws are bigger than the old ones. As I was afraid of cracking or warping the bracket I re-used the old screws. So far, so good.
-Other than the above, getting the radio out of the dashboard was my greatest challenge. The big electrical connector on the backside required A LOT OF force to get off. Maybe not surprising after 15 years….. but I almost gave up before ever getting started with the repair.

Works well, good installation instructions.

Works well. Piece looks 3D printed. Likely over 20 minutes your first time for sure. Better to do a thorough job than beat the clock. Probably the best solution to an otherwise functional head unit. I prefer stock with an aux cable.
The screws included with the kit are fine. I used them. -
Saved my factory radio
Posted by George Kinsella on 23rd Dec 2019
Just bought an e46 330Ci in mint condition...except for the radio. Found the repair on line, ordered the kit and a few days later it showed up. Youtube video made it an easy repair. Screws were oversized so I called the number and to my surprise Thomas answered right away and confirmed its by design. Might be good to include a note with the part.
Great product and service!

Even a Dinosaur can do it

Look, I'm an older gal...with an e46 custom build manual gearbox wagon..she's a sweet girl but when that stereo went...bummer. Anyway, I ordered this part and talked to Thomas 3 or 4 times (SORRY!!!!) but I finally got this baby done and it works like a CHARM. I did end up with a few extra screws (WHAT???) but who cares?! This is a great fix and Thomas is a terrific guy. THANK YOU!

You Can Do It!!!
Posted by Unknown on 16th May 2019
First time attempting a repair like this -if you can use a screwdriver, go for it! Part fits perfectly (aside from replacement screw fit issues noted in other reviews -I was able to re-use original screws) and step-by-step video was crucial (although several of the screw locations were different on my CD53 for some reason). Well done, BavTek!!!
